Yosemite 3.20.2004 Thumbnails!
On Friday night, Matt, Mike, Tim and I drove to Livermore to meet Bowe at his work then headed up to Yosemite for the weekend. We camped at Hardin Flat for the night my first nice spot.
Saturday, after breakfast, we headed out to Camp 4 to get our campsite luckily , even with the parking lot nearly full, we had no problem in getting a site. We thought wed start climbing in the Sunnyside Bench area where we warmed up on Jamcrack (5.7.) I took the first lead then Mike lead it as well and Matt cleaned it both times. From the ledge up top, we set-up top rope and climbed Bummer (10C) and Lazy Bum (10D.) Just as we were finishing the last climb, Bowe and Tim showed up from some climbing they did further up where they left a top rope on Fertile Attraction (10+) for us to use another wonderful slab climb
with still more daylight left and the Lemon (5.8), an overhanging layback, free, Mike and Bowe jumped on it and lead it while Matt cleaned it. We finished the day with pizza and beer at Curry Village.
On Sunday, we decided to split into two groups, Matt, Mike and I headed to Manure Pile Buttress where we climbed After Six, a 5.7 multi-pitch route. Mike and I tossed a coin to decide on who should lead first after an accidental bump on my head (another story), we decided that he should lead the 1st pitch. The 1st pitch was the hardest with all 5.7. Matt lead the 2nd pitch, his first trad woohoo!!!! The best pitch, I thought was the third pitch, and I got to lead it. It had a wide open crack, was exposed and airy
.. the rest of the climb was pretty straightforward and the views from top where beautiful - what a great way to end the weekend!
