St. Helena (East) 5 March 2005 thumbnails below!
Another trip up to the Mt. St. Helena climbing area, and an excuse for me to power up to the county high point of Napa county. I had hiked up to the summit previously, but didn’t realize the county high point was off on the lower middle summit. Chari and Mike Hazel and I drove and hiked to the bubble wall, and after leading the slab, following the 10b, and toproping The Ladder (which has a missing hanger at the crux), they set off for The Far Side while I went up to the middle summit.
The air was clear enough to see back to the Bay, out to the Sierra, and up to Mt. Shasta. There must have been about 20 county high points visible from here. Since I had been up before, I went only to the middle summit and hung out for a little while. The prospect of clomping down 4 miles of forest road is never agreeable, really.
Back at the Bubble Wall, I could clearly see Mike Hazel topping out a climb, so I traversed through the woods to The Far Side. We had time for me to follow a 5.8ish lead that Mike finished. I cleaned and rappelled, and we were off.
